A free green card to live in the “land of the free” sounds like a dream come true for many. But actually getting one of them is a little more complicated.
American green cards can be obtained by applying for one at an American embassy or the USCIS but the chances to actually receive a green card this way are limited – especially for those who are not experts at their jobs or talented sportsmen etc. that are requested by American companies or sports teams (for example the New York Yankees or the LA Lakers).
The permission to reside and live in the USA for an unlimited amount of time is also given to those foreigners (or aliens) that marry a citizen of the United States but only if the marriage is legal and not just so secure someones immigration to America.
A third option to become the holder of a much desired Greencard is to enter the greencard lottery program – an institution existing for more than 20 years now. By entering one becomes one of the potential 55,000 winners drawn every year. Application is possible every year and can speed up the immigration to America because once a person is notified as a winner all they have to do is to complete the immigration process before they can call themselves officially a green card holder.
Whether the green card is won or received through another way – they are all equal regarding their status and if one lives in the United States for more than 15 years it is even possible to apply for citizenship and become a true American. So the idea of a free green card does not necessarily have to stay a dream but can become reality for everyone willing to try.
